shades of blue 60x50cm

shades of blue...

seas of blue disrupted by white foamy lines...

it is a flag hiding between the lines,

it is the livelihood of a nation,

it is the pride of a seafaring's son mother!

...

it is a story that started long, long ago in the mist of ancient times,

a story bold and beautiful but also sad and true...

a story - history that charges the hearts of men, of those men calling it their own,

filling them with energy... begging for the right medium to be released!

the time shall come...[I.R.S.]

mother in dim light 30x40cm

Oh, mother how your love is written in the same font as your pain all over your face describing exactly that you are just another mother.

Oh, mother how unique are you and how common.

Oh, mother can you find the perfect balance that you seek between mother- and woman- hood?.[-]

strict mother 50x70cm

On this painting I used the procedure of underpainting in raw sienna and then applied three layers of colors leaving the background loose with empty spaces for more light. I love vintage style dresses although they look strict they radiate some kind of sensitivity and innocence. [A.R.]

countryside, mother 40x30cm

Countryside, how relaxing and exhilarating it actually is to walk through the countryside, where the air is fresh and the sun is pure. Light and shadow dancing among the grass and the trees. [A.R.]

on the beach, mother 40x30cm

Spring morning on the beach. Feeling the cool fresh breath of the sea touching your face, and the warmth of the sun hugging you like a lover.[A.R.]

mother's mother 40x30cm

This is the 3rd derivative of "Demeter - mother earth 35x35cm", although closer to "mother 35x35cm". It depicts my mother's mother Eleni Kiamili in front of her elevated house at the seafront gazing at the sky; seeking the signs that she finds that tell her what the weather is going to be like in the seasons to come... [A.R.]

mother 35x35cm

This is the 2nd derivative of "Demeter - mother earth 35x35cm", the idea is to create further derivatives until I feel satisfied that every aspect is covered. I tried this approach also with the "old lady night 30x60cm", with a series of four. Lets see how this turns out... [A.R.]

Demeter - mother earth 35x35cm

Demeter (Δήμητρα or Δημήτηρ in Greek) was in ancient Greek mythology, the goddess of cultivation i.e. agriculture, but also of the free vegetation, of the soil and of the fertility. As a consequence she was also considered the protector of marriage and of the motherhood of people. She was an Olympian (main) deity.

The name comes from the De (Δη) (Dorian version of the word Earth) and the meter (μήτηρ = mother) and means mother earth. [A.R.]
